Since the start of the year, our Healthcare Group 'Green Team' has been busy leading the way on sustainability and wellbeing across the practice.
The team leads initiatives that reduce environmental impact, encourage healthy lifestyles, and champion both staff wellbeing and sustainability for the planet.
Here’s a look at some of the brilliant projects delivered so far.
Wellbeing Beach Cleans
We've been running monthly Wellbeing Beach Cleans with the Clean Earth Trust and Guernsey Mind bringing people together to boost their mental health while making a positive impact on the environment.
From winter sunshine at Grandes Rocques to braving downpours at Richmond, each beach clean has offered a chance to spend meaningful time outdoors, connect with others, and do something good for the island. February was our record month so far, with an impressive 31 volunteers collecting 29kg of litter.
Bring and Share day
In April, we hosted our first Bring and Share day, encouraging teams from across the practice to bring in healthy, sustainable food to enjoy together. The day was a huge success, with a colourful spread of high-protein, low-carb, and low-calorie options keeping everyone well-fuelled. The aim was to promote nutritious choices while being more environmentally conscious with vegetarian dishes, dairy alternatives, and plant-based ingredients on offer.
Better Journeys Week
May’s Better Journeys Week encouraged us to rethink how we travel to work with everyone challenged to choose a more sustainable mode of transport. Across the practice, an incredible 134 active or low-emission journeys were logged, from walking and cycling to car-sharing and using the bus.
The Cobo team topped the leaderboard with 50 greener journeys, while Madi from St Martin’s impressed us all by cycling in every day, rain or shine. The week was a great reminder that small changes to our daily routines can make a big difference to our wellbeing and the planet.
Saffrey Rotary Walk
Thirteen of our team stepped up to the challenge of this year’s Saffery Rotary Walk, taking it on as a relay - a brilliant effort in very wet and windy conditions. And a special shoutout goes to Green Team member Dr Laura Bell, who also took part in the walk completing the full 39 miles solo.
All of this amazing work is part of our wider Greener Practice commitment to supporting healthier people and a healthier planet.
We’re so proud of everything the Green Team has achieved so far this year, and there’s plenty more to come 💚
