Frequently asked questions

Healthcare is the largest provider of family medicine in Guernsey. We have an experienced team of doctors, nurses, osteopaths and physiotherapists who offer a range of services designed to meet all of your family’s healthcare needs.

If you do not cancel the appointment at least one hour beforehand, you will be charged 50% of the consultation fee.

We can visit you at home if you cannot attend the surgery, but please try and contact us before 10am in the morning. It is important to let us know if your problem is urgent because it might be more appropriate for you to attend the hospital.

We provide a twenty-four-hour doctor service. Please call your usual surgery number and you will be transferred to the out-of-hours doctor service.

We hope that most problems can be sorted out easily and quickly, often at the time they arise and with the person concerned. If your problem cannot be sorted out in this way and you wish to make a complaint, we would like you to let us know as soon as possible, ideally on the day. The sooner we know about a problem; the easier it will be for us to establish what happened. Read more about out Complaints Procedure here.

If you are on long-term medication the doctor will give you prescriptions to cover an appropriate period of time and advise you when to book a follow up appointment. In certain circumstances, it may be possible to request repeat prescriptions through the doctor’s secretary but there will be a fee for prescriptions issued this way.

The safest thing to do with unused medication is to hand it to the pharmacist who can dispose of it appropriately.
